Catherine Bush-Herling, LMFT
Catherine Bush- Herling works with individuals, couples, and families at any life stage. She is passionate about helping clients who are interested in looking both inwards and outwards to improve their lives and relationships with others. Catherine understands that humans often struggle with balancing connectedness and independence during transitional periods of life. She believes that exploring one’s identity with the support of loved ones grants everyone the opportunity to navigate these periods successfully.
During transitions, people often feel lost and disconnected from their loved ones, needing a safe space to voice their experiences and learn alternative methods of expressing their needs within their support network. Catherine acknowledges that for those who discover their identity includes being a member of the LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent community, there is an even greater need for connection and support. She provides a safe space for processing trauma and hurt, guiding clients through managing parts of their journey on their own and seeking support when needed.
Catherine takes a collaborative, strengths-based approach, often drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Gottman Method Couples Therapy (GMCT). By working in this manner, she aims to explore family patterns and themes with clients, separating the helpful from the harmful in a supportive environment.
Catherine specializes in working with couples, families, adult individuals, and adolescents. She focuses on helping clients cope following the diagnosis of a long-term condition or a major life event. Understanding the challenges these situations present for the family or couple as a whole, as well as for each individual member, Catherine provides a warm and empathetic space. She helps clients and their loved ones figure out what these changes mean for their lives and how to build the skills needed to move forward in a meaningful and fulfilling way.
